From today we’re transitioning from compostable to recyclable coffee bag materials. You’ll be receiving an interim design as the new bags are still in transit.
Compostable plastics sound like the perfect solution to the problem of single-use packaging, however, the infrastructure for such is still in its infancy, meaning people and processing facilities in the UK are unprepared to handle compostable plastics.

Story
Nemba Washing Station, nestled in Kayanza’s Northern Province, partners with local smallholder producers, ensuring access to essential farming tools and training throughout the harvest cycle. Employing a rigorous monitoring system, Nemba maintains traceability in its supply and processing chain. Over 3,000 smallholders supply coffee cherries daily during harvest.
Upon delivery, quality control commences. Cherries undergo a meticulous process, starting with floating in small buckets to eliminate defects and remaining pulp. They then ferment in cement tanks without water for 12 hours, followed by submersion in local spring water for 12-24 hours, enhancing the coffee's clean mouthfeel and crisp acidity. After this process, the coffee is transferred to raised drying beds for 2 to 3 weeks, ensuring optimal drying and flavour development. Nemba's approach guarantees high-quality coffee with distinct characteristics from Kayanza's rich terroir.
